I went to Stuyvesant High School, which was, at the time, an accomplishment for any city kid but especially for a minority kid. This was the late 1960s. So it was a real feather in my cap. The competitiveness of Stuyvesant and the work that it took to maintain a level of academic excellence I found, to me, at that time—and this was right when I started my first foray into experimentation, we could say.
