Harriman Institute Oral History

Caitlin Bertin-Mahieux
Senior Project Manager

Ahead of its 70th anniversary in 2016, the Harriman Institute at Columbia University is embarking on an oral history project thatdocuments its substantive role in area studies and academia and its influence on the making of U.S. foreign policy towards the Soviet Union, Russia, and Eurasia.  The project will include in-depth interviews with approximately 20 individuals, including directors, professors, staff, and senior affiliates of the Harriman Institute.  The project envisions weaving the biographies, experiences, and analyses of those interviewed into a deep analytical history of the Harriman.
